Kad Kong Ta or Chinese Market is located on Old Market Road, Suan Dok Subdistrict, Mueang Lampang District, Lampang Province. On the road where the market is located, there will be ancient buildings over a hundred years old that are unique and have historical value. As for the word Kad Kong Ta, it means Trok Tha Nam Market, named after its location parallel to the Wang River.
In the past, this place was a very prosperous market. This is because Lampang used to be the trade center of the northern region. Most commercial areas occur along the banks of large rivers. Therefore, there was a community that came to do business in various ways, including British people, Burmese people, and Chinese people who came to do business the most. Thus becoming a large Chinese community. Therefore, the villagers call Kad Kong Ta the Chinese Market. The buildings in the Kad Kong Ta area have an architecture that combines European, Chinese, and Burmese styles, making the place full of various types of houses, whether it be Thai houses, Lanna houses, Burmese houses, Chinese style houses, and Western style houses.
Nowadays, this place has become another landmark of Lampang. It is a walking street where tourists come to walk around and shop in large numbers every Saturday and Sunday night from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., there’s plenty of food and supplies. And there is also a beautiful view to take photos with various architectures along with a beautiful view.
